In August 2010 Gakon start the construction of a new greenhouse for the Research Centre Hoogstraten. The existing greenhouse was built in 1990 will be replaced.

The current trends in horticulture and scaling make it necessary that even in the region Noorderkempen performing a test center is present.

The greenhouse has an area of 1.5 hectares and will be glazed with European float glass with a light transmission of 90% and also be hardened vents 5mm applied.

Three separate compartments for each 500 square meters, the new diffuse Float glass Hortifuse ® used as coating material.

In two compartments (tomato and pepper), the Hortifuse ® 5.7 allowing light to penetrate deep into the plant rows is placed.

The special treatment of the Hortifuse ® 5.7 catches the glass much easier the "expensive" light incident at low angles (morning and afternoon + spring and autumn)

Above the strawberries come Hortifuse ® 4.12 that the light spreads more generally.

The 5mm hardened vents of these three compartments are also made of 5mm Hortifuse ®.
