Synthetic panels in polycarbonate are often chosen as an alternative to glass for both greenhouse roofs and walls. These polycarbonate panels have a long life and are highly resistant to the elements. We offer panels produced fully according to requirements, with gutter recesses if required.

Why polycarbonate in your greenhouse?

Synthetic panels in polycarbonate are an excellent heat insulator. These panels are also extremely light proportionate to their large surface area. Polycarbonate also has very low-flammability and the material is simple to work with. We do not supply panels in acrylics (PMMA) because these do not comply with the required fire standards.

1Solid polycarbonate panels

Solid polycarbonate is mainly used 4 mm thick as clear or white.

  • The extruded sheets are provided with an excellent coating that prevents the sheet from yellowing and becoming brittle under the influence of UV radiation, making it excellent for outdoor applications (professional horticulture, hobby greenhouses, carports, etc.).
  • A very smooth surface counteracts dirt deposition and makes the sheet low-maintenance.
  • About 50% weight saving in comparison to 4 mm greenhouse glass.
  • Sheets are available in clear and opal versions.
  • With the high impact resistance, these sheets can withstand hail and the effects of extreme weather very well. These sheets are practically unbreakable.
  • Despite the high mechanical strength the sheets can be used for curved applications.
  • The sheets have a long lifespan.
  • The high transparency is comparable to that of classic greenhouse glass.
  • Polycarbonate is an inert material, and is therefore not affected by chemicals.
  • The sheets are easy to handle and can be worked simply using standard tools. This leads to time savings for the installer.
  • These sheets also behave very well in a fire.

2Multi-wall polycarbonate panels

Multi-wall panels have a high insulation value and are often used as an alternative in walls. For horticultural applications panels are mainly used with thicknesses between 4 and 16 mm.

  • Extruded sheets provided on at least one side with an excellent UV-protection coating that prevents the sheet from yellowing and becoming brittle. Double-sided UV protection is available as an option (not for 4 mm). A long lifespan is guaranteed.
  • The sheets are available with a no-drip coating, which prevents water droplets from forming from condensation along the inside of the sheets. The condensing water effectively flows away in the form of a water film. There are therefore no falling droplets, which is very important for roofing sheets in commercial spaces and over young, delicate crops.
  • The smooth surface counteracts dirt deposition and makes the sheet low-maintenance..
  • Polycarbonate sheets weigh considerably less than greenhouse glass: about 70% less weight for 16 mm sheets and as much as 90% weight savings for the 4 mm thick double-wall sheets.
  • High mechanical strength and impact resistance, up to 250 times stronger than glass. Polycarbonate sheets can therefore withstand hail very well.
  • Optimal thermal insulation, with U-value ≈ 2.0 W/m²K for five-wall sheets with a thickness of 16 mm.
  • Excellent acoustic insulation.
  • High light transmittance for clear sheets:
    • + 80% for 4 mm thickness.
    • + 70% for 16 mm thickness in three-wall sheet.
    • + 60% for 16 mm thickness in five-wall sheet.
  • The sheets are available in large dimensions, up to a width of 2,100 mm.
  • Polycarbonate is an inert material, and is therefore not affected by chemicals.
  • High fire safety: the sheets are flame retardant, therefore there is no flame transfer in case of fire.
  • The sheets are easy to handle and can be worked simply using standard tools. This leads to time savings for the glazer.
  • This type of sheet is available in clear and opal versions.
  • Flexible terms of delivery
Van Looveren NV also offers the following services to maximally meet the demands of modern greenhouse construction:
  • Cutting all sheet thicknesses to size in our workshop, including the rectangular side facade sheets and the end facade sheets with angled top sides
  • Making gutter openings, always according to details to be supplied
  • Applying tape according to the practises of the trade, according to customer wishes:
    • one-sided (top) or two-sided (top and bottom)
    • sealed tape and/or permeable (ventilating) tape
    • transport tape
