As a total supplier of horticultural glass we are able to offer all conceivable glass types. Here we make a distinction between float glass, figured glass and a number of special glass types.

1Float glas

Float glass is and continues to be highly popular in greenhouse construction. Float glass primarily stands out by its strength, appearance, its cutting options, exact measurement tolerances and permanent light transmission.

The standard direct light transmission of float glass is about 89%. With the adaptation of the basic materials and possible chemical processes, direct light transmission can even reach a level up to 91%.

We call this low iron float glass. This low iron float glass can be provided with a single-sided or double-sided anti-reflective coating (AR). You have also found the right place to go for this glass at Van Looveren NV.

How is float glass made?

  • During the production process float glass flows from a furnace onto a horizontal bath of tin at 1,000 °C. This results in a glass ribbon with a thickness of 1 to 19 mm.
  • The contact surface between the tin and the glass is completely level. This gives the float glass its uniform visual appearance.
  • The glass continues on through a cooling tunnel so it remains completely free of internal stress. This also gives the float glass its superior strength.
  • The glass can then be cut to size and tempered if required (according to standard EN12150).

2Figured glass

Figured glass is included among the cast glass types. In many cases figured glass is used in greenhouse building for wall glass, for example as hammered glass.

We offer different kinds of figured glass, each time provided with a different pattern.

How is figured glass made?

  • During the production process the hot glass flows from a furnace between two figured glass rollers.
  • These two rollers determine the pattern on both figured glass sides.
  • The glass continues on through a cooling tunnel so it remains completely free of internal stress.
  • The glass can then be cut to size and hardened if required (according to standard EN12150).

3Special glass types

Under our private label we offer different kinds of special glass with special properties:

  • Hortiplus®

Hortiplus® is an excellent roof and wall glass for just about all conceivable crops. One of the sides of this float glass is covered with a thin layer of metal oxides. This material keeps the heat in the greenhouse. The insulation value is comparable with double glazing.

  • Hortiwhite®

Hortiwhite® is horticultural float glass with an opaque white ceramic coating on one side. The coating is baked into the glass during the tempering process. This glass has all the properties of safety glazing. Hortiwhite® is mainly used as roof glass in packing or technical spaces.

  • Horticlear®

Horticlear® is the commercial name for frameless ventilation panes with holes, usually in tempered horticultural glass with a thickness of 5 mm. The absence of the aluminium frame ensures the smooth operation of the greenhouse cleaning system. Because the glass is thermally tempered by definition, there is a reduced risk of glass breakage. Horticlear® is also possible with diffuse glass.

  • Sundim®

Sundim® is float glass with a hard, durable bronze-brown coating on one side. The coated side is placed facing outwards and ensures approximately 50% reflection of the sunlight. Sundim® is also sold as Stopsol classic bronze. Stopsol glass is available in different colours. Sundim® is often used in greenhouse sides for aesthetic purposes.
